Algorithms are used on every website, everything from eBay to Etsy to Facebook to Instagram to every site you can imagine, obviously including YouTube.
The problem is that unless people don’t meet a certain metric that the algorithm is looking to reward, then they won’t be rewarded, as far as getting exposure on the website that’s using the algorithm.

Older people and people who don’t understand this. Will not be as successful on these sites, not knowing you have to please the algorithm to be seen.
On the flip side, if you say something the algorithm is not fond of, you get banned
. It also automatically bans you for frivolous, faulty reasons.

The shadow ban is a sneaky bastard where you don’t even know you are shadow-banned on the site, so if you are on a dating site, for example, and you are shadow-banned, your messages to other users will not be seen by them, or they will only go through to the people that also have a low score on the dating site
